An application of the knowledge and skills from prior learning in the area of tourism and hospitality human resources management, yield management, and the environmental and managerial conditions specific to the accommodation sector.
The accommodation sector is a specific and important part of the larger tourism and hospitality industry both in New Zealand and globally. This paper takes a closer look at the commercial and non-commercial accommodation sector and examines why this sector is about more than just a bed for the night. It takes a global perspective and uses key examples from Europe, Asia, North America and Australasia to give students an overview of this sector. The paper looks at the accommodation sector in light of human resource management, revenue management, corporate social responsibility, quality and standards, and the operations management of these businesses.
