Research interests and activities
Frederieke is a senior research fellow at the University of Otago, Wellington and is a member of the Integrated Data Research Group. Her current research/professional specialty is in the use of linked administrative data in StatsNZ’s Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI) to investigate health and social service use and outcomes for marginalised groups, including groups of forced migrants, Māori children, young people and adults released from youth justice residences/prison and rangatahi Māori with first episode psychosis. Frederieke completed her PhD with BODE3 in 2017 investigating the future smoking prevalence, population health, and cost impacts of novel and substantive tobacco control policies ("tobacco endgame strategies") for Māori and non-Māori in New Zealand. She completed her BSc and MSc in Health Sciences at the Wageningen University in the Netherlands. During the second year of her MSc programme, Frederieke worked with the Health Inequalities Research Programme using SoFIE data to investigate the relation between smoking behaviours and mental health.
