Welcome to the University Flats
The University of Otago is renowned for its residential campus environment. The University Flats Office, located at 105 St David Street, manages approximately 150 flats for mainly single semester International Students and for first-year Māori students. We also have limited accommodation for Postgraduate International Students and International families.
Every flat is unique - some are older houses that have been renovated and others are newer, purpose built normally in a complex containing 5 -9 flats. All flats are of a good standard and well maintained. Each flat is furnished, including a basic kitchen set up. All bedrooms have a double bed, mattress, desk, chair and drawers. For standard shared UG accommodation the bedding pack is included in the Semester Charge - For other accommodation Bedding packages can be hired direct from our office, however we recommend that you bring a sleeping bag for your first few and last nights of your stay.
All the University Flats are located within an easy walk of the University campus and main shopping centre. We endeavour to have a New Zealand student in each of our international undergraduate flats to act as a Kiwihost. A Residential Assistant (RA) is appointed for each flat. Living in a flat with others is an enriching experience which requires a positive input from you personally. Students share the cleaning and cooking duties and usually shop together for the food. Flatting expenses/utilities are shared with the other students in the flat and are not included in the rent.
