Research interests

Dr Louise Paton graduated from the University of Canterbury with a double major BSc in Biochemistry and Plant and Microbial Sciences. She completed her MSc in Plant Biotechnology before becoming employed as a protein chemistry technician at the Wool Research Organisation of New Zealand. She gained a Bright Future Enterprise Scholarship and completed her PhD under the supervision of Professor Juliet Gerrard in Biochemistry, specialising in proteomics and protein assembly. She worked as a Scientist at Canesis Inc before joining the Centre for Free Radical Research in 2005 as the Proteomics Research Manager. Louise transferred to the Christchurch Heart Institute in 2020.

Dr Paton is experienced in many biochemical and protein chemistry techniques including ELISA, chromatography, cell and bacterial culture. She has many years of experience in mass spectrometry, using proteins, peptides and small molecules, including both qualitative and quantitative methods and structural determination.
