We are saddened to report that Dr John Garthwaite passed away on 9 January 2024.
John retired in 2014 after decades of service as an extremely popular lecturer in Classics, teaching the Greek Mythology paper alongside his research specialisation in Roman literature.

Background and research interests
John graduated from Leicester and Cornell. He taught Greek mythology, as well as Latin language and literature. His research interests were in Roman literature of the Flavian period, especially the poets Martial and Statius.
