Overview
The Early Learning in Medicine (ELM) programme (MICN201 and MICN301) extends the requisite medical science learning of entering students while introducing them to patients, their communities and their points of view. The learning emphasis in ELM is active and collaborative; integrated; and contextually and community based.

In ELM, students spend about 60% of their time in formal teaching situations (lectures, labs, tutorials, supervised patient contact, community placements), with the remaining 40% of non-contact time allocated to independent and peer learning.

Students that complete Early Learning in Medicine (MICN201 and MICN301) will have demonstrated competency in the foundational knowlege, skills and attitudes required to progress to Advanced Learning in Medicine. This will include a foundational understanding of the biopsychosocial basis for health and disease, and the professionsl requirements for the practice of clinical medicine.
