Tēnā koutou katoa. Nau mai tauti mai ki te Kura Ākau Taitoka me Ahuahu te Mātauranga! Greetings, and a warm welcome to the University of Otago College of Education. We are New Zealand's longest-standing provider of initial teacher education, located in New Zealand's first university. We have two campuses in New Zealand's southernmost cities – Dunedin and Invercargill.

The College of Education is a community of experienced educators and education scholars with a deep commitment to social justice, teaching and learning. We believe in the power of education to change the world! As education scholars and practitioners based in Te Waipounamu, the South Island of New Zealand, we recognise Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as central to our work in education. We acknowledge the vital contribution of papatipu rūnaka (local indigenous communities) as partners in our ongoing journey to enact Te Tiriti in all aspects of our research and practice. We also partner with a much wider community of education and community-based colleagues and stakeholders, in New Zealand and beyond.

The College of Education is an exciting and vibrant place with an international reputation for excellence in educational research, practice, and professional leadership. We offer programmes for people who want to start careers as educators in early childhood, primary and secondary education settings, enhance their skills and professional learning through Master's and EdD programmes, and who wish to engage in educational research through our PhD programme.

For those interested in teaching as a career and who have completed an undergraduate degree in any field, our Master of Teaching and Learning offers a postgraduate pathway to registration for teaching in early childhood, primary and secondary education. The Bachelor of Teaching offers an undergraduate degree pathway to early childhood and primary teaching qualifications. On our Invercargill campus, Te Pōkai Mātauranga o te Ao Rua offers a bicultural primary teaching programme that prepares graduates to teach in mainstream, bilingual and Māori immersion settings, depending on their level of reo Māori expertise.

Whatever your interest, we welcome your inquiry. To those already studying with us and to our alumni communities, I wish you all the best as you enter or contribute to the critical field of education.

Kā mihi mahana,

Professor Vivienne Anderson (Dean)
