Research
Professor Jones' research group has a broad range of interests in the field of vascular biology, including population genetics, cardiovascular disease biomarkers, and vascular connective tissue biology. The group's research has a strong clinical emphasis, particularly in the areas of aortic aneurysm, coronary and peripheral arterial disease and varicose veins.
The Vascular Research Group has four main areas of research focus:
- Genes associated with the initiation and progression of vascular diseases
- Identifying circulating biomarkers to assess vascular disease risk
- The early structural and molecular features of human arterial disease
- The pathobiology of lower limb venous disease, including varicose veins, venous ulcers and post-operative recurrence
- The techniques used in the Vascular Research Group include whole genome scanning, microRNA and mRNA microarray, proteomics, immunohistochemistry, cell culture, and functional assays.
The group is currently funded by the Health Research Council of New Zealand.
