Research

I am a member of the Biostatistics Centre dedicated to providing biostatistical collaboration and advice to people involved with health research. My involvement in research is varied but, preferably, I like to be a member of a research team contributing methodological expertise to a project. This means getting involved early in a project with the analysis of the data from the research as part of what I do. I can also provide advice on the design of studies, including sample size calculations, analysis of data, interpretation of results, and assistance with preparation of papers for submission to journals.

I have worked as a statistician in various guises since 1990. I have worked with official statistics, hospital data, and done a lot of analyses related to wildlife. I have also taught statistics at first and second year level. My PhD (completed in 2009) investigated the use of open population capture-recapture models to estimate diabetes prevalence and incidence in Otago.

I have been in this role since late August 2011 and am open to any problems that come my way.
