Our workshops are great for finding out what is expected of you at all levels of university study. These workshops are interactive, informal sessions which are designed to help you discover new techniques and skills to support your study. Undergraduate workshop topics include; Essay writing, Essay writing for exams, How a growth mindset can help you learn, Note-taking, Preparing and revising for exams, Reading for understanding, Summarising and paraphrasing in your assignments, Time management, Writing better sentences and paragraphs (this workshop covers grammar, and sentence and paragraph structure), and Writing your first university assignment.
Postgraduate workshop topics include; An introduction to the research journey, Engaging with the literature (writing a literature review), Expectations of examiners, Improving academic writing for publication, Preparing for the oral exam, Presenting research at conferences, Publishing for postgrads, Thesis writing for postgraduates - practical, Tips for thriving and surviving in a new learning context (for international students).
SLD also offers the following workshops for all Otago students; Designing an effective conference poster, Mind mapping, Presentation skills, and What you need to know about academic integrity.
If you are a Christchurch postgraduate student, you will be emailed the details of all Christchurch workshops at the start of each semester. A reminder will be sent a few days before each workshop.
