Sara Nourozi

Graduated BSc(Human Nutrition) PG Diploma Public Health

Nutrition Consultant, United Nations World Food Programme, Timor Leste

I am currently a nutrition consultant for the United Nations World Food Programme in Timor Leste.
I support the Ministry of Health to manage a targeted supplementary feeding programme for children, pregnant and breastfeeding women with malnutrition. It is a meaningful organization to work for and my day to day work is always different so I never get bored!
I monitor the programme at health clinics, provide training for health staff and design nutrition communication tools.
I frequently support community health promotion events in rural areas - cooking demonstrations and interactive nutrition education. I really enjoy this part of my role where I am with the community. I also manage the logistics and transport for our projects and events.

I frequently use skills gained from my studies in my role, e.g. technical nutritional requirements throughout the lifecycle, the effects and treatment of undernutrition, how to communicate nutrition information effectively to the general public, how to apply evidence based health promotion frameworks.

I chose to study at Otago because the lecturers in nutrition have solid academic records and lead in nutrition related research so I was confident I was going to have a great learning experience.

Dunedin is a vibrant student city where you are sure to get the most out of student life. Students come from all around the world to study there because of its good reputation.
There is plenty to do and everything is easily accessible. Staying at a hall of residence in my first year added valuable experience as this is where I made lifelong friends and was given academic support through tutorials.
