Research interests

Innovations in the management of urban form, including developments in sustainable settlements, urban growth management, and inner city revitalisation; the interface between iwi and planning authority resource management processes and strategies; the links between place making marketing, environmental enhancement and strategies to address regional development imbalances.


DPhil (Oxon); MPlan(Hons); BTP (Auck); MNZPI. Ten years planning experience related to urban, rural, conservation, transportation, and iwi issues at the regional and district levels in New Zealand. Six years teaching and research experience in resource management and geography in Great Britain and Canada.

Ceri Warnock

Ceri's primary research concerns environmental constitutionalism and explores in particular the impact of modern governmental ordering on theories for environmental adjudication. She was the recipient of the 2014 'New Zealand Law Foundation International Research Fellowship – Te Manatū a Ture o Aotearoa Te Karahipi Rangahau Ā Taiao' for her work into legitimacy and specialist environment courts and tribunals.

Nicola Wheen

Nicola teaches and convenes Public Law, Environmental Law and International Environmental Law. Nicola's research interests lie in the environmental and conservation law about marine mammals, wildlife protection, protected areas, precaution, fisheries, genetically modified organisms, rivers and lakes, and the Treaty of Waitangi.
