Description:
Enabling works for the planned demolition of the former Zoology Annex, located between the Marples Building and the Dental School, are underway and expected to continue through to November. Demolition and associated remediation of the site is expected to begin in late November and take two months.
Stage 1: Enabling Works (September to November)
• Asbestos removal works will begin on 28 September and continue through to late November, undertaken by licensed contractors in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016.
• Independent air monitoring and additional filtration measures will be in place throughout the works.
• The Annex car park will be closed from 28 September until demolition is complete.
• From mid-November, occupants may notice contractors wearing PPE externally during soffit removal, this is an occupational requirement and is not indicative of any health and safety risk to staff or students.
• ACM waste will be removed from site as required between 6:00am and 6:30am to minimise disruption.
• Fire valve relocation works will occur between 28 September and 9 October, involving excavation, concrete cutting, and some associated noise and dust.
Stage 2: Demolition
• Building demolition is currently scheduled to commence from 23 November 2026.
• Some temporary pedestrian access changes will be required, including restrictions to routes near the Dental Building.
• A detailed demolition and traffic management plan is being developed, and a further update will be provided before demolition begins.
Property and Campus Development will continue to work closely with neighbouring departments to minimise disruption.

Description:
Contractors will be moving & altering the sprinkler system valve set to enable the demolition of the Zoology Annexe.
This work is programmed for the week of 28th September to 2nd October 2026 & will involve the isolation of the sprinkler system for the duration of the work.
The isolation will affect the sprinkler systems in E209 - Marples, E212 - Benham & E213 - Parker buildings.
During the isolation these building's sprinkler systems will be inopperative & will not signal a fire to the Fire Service.
The Fire Alarm system (alerting devices, manual call points with smoke & heat detectors) will remain fully operational & will signal the presence of a fire to the Fire Service.
If a fire is discovered, please use the nearest Manual Call Point & follow normal evacuation procedures.
No 'Hot Works' are to be undertaken during the period of the sprinkler isolation unless for emergency reasons & with the appropriate safety measures in place.

Description: The former Zoology Annex, located between the Marples Building and the Dental School has been vacant for some time and is no longer fit for purpose. As part of our ongoing campus planning and space optimisation work under the Pae Tata Strategic Plan, the building will be demolished.
Enabling works are now underway and will continue through to early September. Demolition is expected to begin from mid-September. The demolition and associated remediation of the site is expected to take two months.
Property and Campus Development will be working closely with neighbouring departments to minimise disruption.

Description:
Enabling works for the planned demolition of the former Zoology Annex, located between the Marples Building and the Dental School, are underway and expected to continue through to November. Demolition and associated remediation of the site is expected to begin in late November and take two months.
Stage 1: Enabling Works (September to November)
• Asbestos removal works will begin on 28 September and continue through to late November, undertaken by licensed contractors in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016.
• Independent air monitoring and additional filtration measures will be in place throughout the works.
• The Annex car park will be closed from 28 September until demolition is complete.
• From mid-November, occupants may notice contractors wearing PPE externally during soffit removal, this is an occupational requirement and is not indicative of any health and safety risk to staff or students.
• ACM waste will be removed from site as required between 6:00am and 6:30am to minimise disruption.
• Fire valve relocation works will occur between 28 September and 9 October, involving excavation, concrete cutting, and some associated noise and dust.
Stage 2: Demolition
• Building demolition is currently scheduled to commence from 23 November 2026.
• Some temporary pedestrian access changes will be required, including restrictions to routes near the Dental Building.
• A detailed demolition and traffic management plan is being developed, and a further update will be provided before demolition begins.
Property and Campus Development will continue to work closely with neighbouring departments to minimise disruption.
