Our staff are actively involved in a broad range of research. Much of the work is concerned with creating new technologies, and we pride ourselves on the technical depth of our work.
Our work applies to various domains including health, and energy and sustainability. We have a range of interdisciplinary collaborations with colleagues in Psychology, Physiotherapy, Botany, Zoology, Computer Science, and Preventive and Social Medicine.

Due to the expertise of Otago's School of Computing in computer architecture, networking and parallel computing, the university was selected as one of only seven universities worldwide to be a Sun Microsystems OpenSPARC Centre of Excellence.
