Background
I completed both my undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Biomedical Science at Victoria University of Wellington. I finished my PhD in 2018 and moved to The University of Otago, Wellington, to take up a Postdoctoral Fellow position within the Department of Surgery. My current research is focused on developing inflammation-based risk scores for predicting good myocardial repair following a myocardial infarction. I have extensive technical expertise in full-spectrum flow cytometry and utilize this skillset to interrogate circulating immune cell phenotype for biomarker discovery. If we are able to identify patients that experience bad cardiac repair post-infarction, we can begin to personalize their therapy and rehabilitation to ensure beneficial long-term cardiac health for these individuals.
I work as a part of the Wellington Cardiovascular Research Group, which is a collaborative effort between The University of Otago, Victoria University and Capital and Coast DHB. Combined, we have expertise in both basic science and in clinical practice and work together to ensure the translation of our work from the bench into the clinic.
