Developmental Genetics

Developmental Genetics harnesses the power of genetic technology to unravel the mysteries of how embryos are built from their genetic blueprints, or genomes.

Staff in Zoology use bees, frogs and fish as model organisms to study topics as diverse as reproductive physiology, behavioural neuroscience, development, and regeneration.

We employ techniques such as genome sequencing, transcriptome analysis, gene knockdown, and transgenesis (genetic engineering) to understand how genes drive these fundamental processes.
