PHSE312 Prescription of Physical Activity and Exercise

A study of the process of prescribing physical activity and/or exercise for all sectors of the population.

This paper focuses on the fundamentals of exercise prescription and the prescription process. Students will be expected to develop their knowledge base and reasoning skills in areas that relate to encouraging and supporting habitual physical activity.

This paper uses lectures, laboratories, laboratory assignments and practical sessions as part of the formal teaching arrangements. Students will be expected to engage in a range of self-directed learning activities.

Readings and supplementary material are provided on Blackboard or through the University Library. There is no set textbook, though recommended texts will be discussed in class.

  • Demonstrate the ability to design an exercise programme that considers the needs, preferences, capabilities and safety of the client
  • Establish the ability to apply the breadth of "Physical Education" knowledge to resolve exercise prescription challenges and make safe and appropriate decisions
  • Be capable of contemplating and critiquing the broad domain of exercise prescription
