There are a number of students that attend the University of Otago who enjoy the outdoors and the great hunting opportunities located only a few hours away. In the past the storage of firearms has been an issue for students that have arrived in Dunedin.
Approved safe storage facility for firearms
In order to provide them with a safe and secure location, the Proctor's Office has a Police approved firearm storage facility. This is for “A” category firearms only.
Firearms must be personally brought into the Campus Watch office for storage. Courier delivery will not be accepted.
Firearms licence required
Students are required to produce their firearms licence when dropping off or uplifting their firearms.
Storage cost
There is no cost for this service.
Access to the firearms
Students may drop off firearms and/or ammunition for storage at any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
To collect (uplift) a firearm, students must provide at least 24 hours’ notice by emailing Campus Watch.
In accordance with Firearms Safety Authority handling requirements, firearm collection must take place on weekdays during standard business hours, where a firearms licenced staff member will be available to undertake the process.
