Several of our doctors and nurses are specially trained in travel medicine.

They can offer advice on vaccinations, medication and general safety tips specific to your area of travel.

Help Us To Help You

Plan ahead

Come for advice as soon as possible.
Please make an appointment at least 8 weeks before you leave Dunedin if possible. If travelling in busy times (e.g. end of semester) there may be a delay in getting an appointment. At these times, it may be necessary for you to have vaccinations through your exams* or attend another travel clinic in Dunedin.

Ask for a travel appointment

Please advise reception you wish to make a travel appointment so they can book you in with one of our specialty trained travel staff. You will see a nurse initially and they will refer you on to the GP as needed. You will then be booked back to the nurse for vaccines.

Tell us about your trip

  • Be clear about where you are going and for how long, how you will be travelling and what sort of accommodation you will be staying in
  • Will you be in contact with animals, working in a clinic or doing special activities such as climbing or diving?
  • This helps us to assess your risk and give you appropriate advice

Check with parents or family GP

  • What vaccinations have you had already?
  • Did you have the routine childhood vaccinations and when was your last booster?
  • Have you had any travel vaccinations before? - If so bring a record of these to your appointment

Think about your general health

  • Do you have asthma, diabetes or any other long term conditions?
  • Are you taking any regular medication?
  • Will you be needing contraception?

Covid-19

  • Obtain covid-19 vaccination passport
  • Check destination pre-travel and swab requirements
  • Check Ministry of Health website and individual country embassy's regarding quarantine requirements
  • If you develop respiratory symptoms, please check with your airline
