Purpose

The University promotes a healthy environment for all staff and students which includes a smoke-free environment.

Organisational scope

This Policy applies to all University of Otago employees, students, visitors, contractors, volunteers, research participants and any person on any University of Otago Campus at any time, for any reason.

Definitions

Smoke and Smoking
have the meaning given to “to Smoke” set out in section 2 of the Smoke-free Environments Act 1990.
Smoke free
means free from exposure to any smoke or vapour produced by smoking or using any electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS), including e-cigarettes, e-hookah and any other vaporisers (whether delivering nicotine or not).
University of Otago Campuses
means all University of Otago buildings (including residential accommodation), grounds, vessels and vehicles owned or leased by the University of Otago.

Content

No person shall smoke or use any ENDS device or vaporisers (whether delivering nicotine or not) on any University of Otago Campus.

Heads of Divisions, Managers, Heads of Department, Centre Heads, Heads of Residential Colleges and others in positions of responsibility are asked to inform people about this Policy and to assist with the enforcement of it.
