Have no idea of your career direction? Or are you already on the right track – but could still benefit from some friendly, personalised advice? The Career Development Centre offers one-on-one sessions to prospective students, current students, and graduates of the University of Otago. No matter if you are located on the Dunedin campus, or further afield – we can help.

The Career Development Centre runs Quick Query sessions for ‘quick questions’, You will receive 15-20 minutes of helpful advice.

Make an appointment for a longer session  

The Career Development Centre offers individual appointments for students needing a little longer. You will receive 30 minutes of advice.

Please note we do not check CV or cover letters in 30 minute appointments or quick query sessions.

Need help with your CV and cover letter?

Whether you need to develop your CV and cover letter from scratch or would like a final check before submitting your documents, the Career Development Centre offers CV help tailored to your needs. Please choose which service best suits your needs from the following three options.

1. Starting at the beginning? Attend a CV101 - Getting Started on Your CV and Cover Letter seminar.
2. Have attended our CV101 seminar and ready for a review by a career adviser? - Book in for a 20-minute CV/Cover Letter Review Appointment, for a final check.

Are you a graduate, or located off-campus?

The Career Development Centre offers career advice to students and graduates located off campus. We look forward to hearing from you.

CDC Alumni Policy

CDC are happy to offer one on one appointments in person at the Dunedin campus, and via skype/telephone to alumni of the University of Otago within five years of graduation. Please send an appointment request outlining the nature of your enquiry and your availability to be contacted to Please note, that limited times are available during semester periods.

All alumni regardless of graduation date are welcome to register to attend any of our employer events, and our career workshops and seminars. This can be done via OtagoCareerHub (log-on required) or calling us to book in. To create a log-on for the OtagoCareerHub, please contact us.

All alumni are welcome to use our online resources including our website, OtagoCareerHub, our jobs portal; the biginterview software to practice job interview skills and the GoinGlobal resources for working abroad.

Outside of semester time, we offer occasional options for one on one career consultations to current students and alumni on the Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch campuses. These will be advertised on our website, on the OtagoCareerHub and through the alumni newsletter.

Career Advice appointments: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9am to 12noon
Individual (30 minutes) appointments are available. Book via OtagoCareerHub.

Quick Query sessions: Monday to Friday 2pm to 4:30pm
For quick query advice (15-20 minutes). Book via OtagoCareerHub.

CV / Cover Letter Review: Please attend a CV101 - Get Started on Your CV and Cover Letter seminar first. Individual (20 minutes) appointments are available for a final check. Book via OtagoCareerHub.
