Kia ora, I'm Janine. I'm based in Ashburton with my partner Daniel and our teenage sons. I grew up in Tāmaki Makaurau and graduated from Auckland Medical School, after initially completing a master's degree in Medical Science and working as research assistant in Molecular Medicine.

I became sold on rural general and hospital practice during a fourth year clinical placement in Dargaville. I moved to Timaru for my postgraduate house officer years and loved the work, community and lifestyle. I began the Rural Hospital Training Programme in 2009, which provided wonderful opportunities to work across the country and get to know and learn from an amazing group of rural practitioners.

I have worked as a Rural Hospital Generalist at Ashburton Hospital since 2015. Ashburton is a well-supported Teaching Hospital, with the Rural Health Academic Centre Ashburton contributing to both local and national rural interprofessional clinical education and research.

More recently, I've taken on the role of senior lecturer in the Centre for Rural Health, based in the Dunedin School of Medicine. I'm currently a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine's Centre for Rural Health, and RMIP Director, although we are very much a team, with everyone contributing to the Programme's development, co‑ordination and success. I share the Ashburton RMIP Co‑ordinator role with colleagues Alex and Penny.
