Kia ora, ko Katelyn Costello toku ingoa.

I'm based in Queenstown with my wonderful husband and two kids. I grew up on the outskirts of Christchurch in a “semi rural” area on a small farm. My community growing up is a huge part of who I am today. After leaving Lincoln High School I moved to Dunedin and got into the University of Otago School of Medicine. I was fortunate enough to participate in the Rural Medical Immersion Programme myself in Greymouth. After medical school I got to do a rural hospital run in Ashburton and a rural GP placement in Queenstown – in addition to some time up North in Kaitaia. These epxeriences further inspired me to train as a rural generalist. It's an honour to now work alongside the team and the wonderful mentors who have got me to where I am today.

I currently work as a rural GP and have a role as Education Lead at Queenstown Medical Centre. I am also doing a PhD in improving rural medical workforce outcomes in Aotearoa. Outside of work I love spending time with my family, getting outdoors and keeping active.
