Kia ora. I grew up in the UK just west of London and studied medicine at Newcastle University. It was while studying in the North East of England that I developed an interest in rural health, largely through my love of the outdoors and involvement in a Search and Rescue team.
I completed the first stage of internal medical training in Newcastle before moving to Aotearoa in 2020. Since then, I have worked in Waikato, Queenstown, Newcastle and Tanzania and I recently completed my PhD research which examined treatment pathways for older adults admitted to rural and urban hospitals in the Kilimanjaro Region.
My wife Ellie and I now live in Queenstown, where we enjoy trail running, climbing, skiing and mountaineering. I work in General Practice, with clinical and interests in neurology, geriatrics and expedition medicine. Although I’m a relatively recent addition to Aotearoa’s rural health community, I’ve found it incredibly welcoming, and I hope to encourage others to consider rural practice through the RMIP programme.
