Email ellen.ozarka@postgrad.otago.ac.nz

Ellen is an "Ameri-kiwi" PhD student at the Centre for Sustainability who is interested in exploring the relationship between communications and culture change. Previously, she obtained a Master of Science Communication at the University of Otago, and a BS in Biology at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia. In her spare time, Ellen enjoys gardening, riding her bike around Te Awa Ōtākou | The Otago Harbour, and learning German and te reo Māori.

Research

Ellen's PhD investigates Narrative Change, a theory of change applied by social and political activists, campaigners, and communicators globally to support their change-making work. The project explores both the theory and practice of this approach and will use a mixed method approach to evaluate the effectiveness of Narrative Change as a strategy for inducing culture change.
