    Overview

    A continuation of LATN111, including the study of texts chosen to illustrate Roman history and literature in the 1st century BC.

    This paper continues the survey of Latin grammar. The emphasis is not only on mastering more complex features of Latin grammar and vocabulary, but also on developing skills in translating from Latin to English.

    Learning Outcomes

    Students who successfully complete this paper will:

    • Demonstrate a knowledge of key elements of Latin syntax (constructions, clauses, sentence structure), especially verbal tenses, participles and the passive voice
    • Demonstrate a knowledge of Latin grammar sufficient to progress to the more advanced Latin grammatical constructions taught in LATN 211
    • Demonstrate a knowledge of Latin vocabulary and the techniques for remembering vocabulary
    • Demonstrate an ability to understand and translate sentences and passages of Latin prose
