An examination and interpretation of travelling as a cultural learning discovery, as well as how travel is represented in Latin American narrative.

  • Unit 1: Mexican Cultural Tourism and Pre-Colombian Cultures.
  • Unit 2: Venezuelan Cultural Tourism.
  • Unit 3: Argentinian and Chilean Cultural Tourism.
  • Unit 4: Cultural Tourism in Colombia and Peru.

There are two lectures per week and one tutorial.

  • Participate in discussions about Latin American tourist sites and understand how the topic of travel is represented in Latin American literature.
  • Develop an appreciation and understanding of Latin American history and geography through its tourist sites and architectural heritage, as well as deepening their understanding of the gastronomic traditions of each region.
  • Construct a detailed and critical argument on an aspect of tourism and support this with evidence and opinions from a range of primary and secondary sources.
  • Undertake research and present a well-informed written research essay.
  • Demonstrate oral skills through a presentation of their research topic.
