NUTN407 Advanced Sports Nutrition

A critical and in-depth analysis of current and topical issues in the nutritional aspects of exercise, performance and sport.

Eligibility

Eligible students will be professionals in the healthcare and education sectors without a background in human nutrition but with a strong background in biological sciences or health science; or nutritionists or human nutrition students with an interest in sports nutrition.

Paper Structure

This paper explores the current issues in the field of sports nutrition.

Teaching Arrangements

This Distance Learning paper is taught remotely.

This paper is distance taught using a combination of pre-recorded and live zoom sessions. There is an expectation that students will complete assigned work prior to the live sessions. Live sessions run from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm on Thursdays.

Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete the paper will:

  • Have an up-to-date understanding of the relationship between nutrition and sport.
  • Be able to evaluate the extent to which nutrition and nutritional supplements play a role in athletic performance.
  • Be able to appreciate that our knowlege of sports nutrition is constantly being updated, resulting in rapidly changing recommendations on optimal nutrition for athletes.
