This paper exposes students to the practical problems and issues of archaeological fieldwork. In addition to advanced training in field methods, it provides students with practical experience in the ethics of excavation and in working in the field with stakeholder groups. There is an emphasis in the course on how to communicate the results of excavation in terms of statutory requirements, research and public engagement.
