    Overview

    Introduces students to the research process, encompassing searching for, interpreting and analysing literature, ethical research, developing research questions, and sources and types of data.

    The paper aims to help students develop an in-depth understanding of how to conduct a literature review and, from that, frame their research. By the end of this paper, students will be able to appreciate the importance of research, undertaking it in an ethically sensitive manner, and why/how it can help answer relevant questions.

    Learning Outcomes

    Students who successfully complete the paper will be able to:

    • Argue for the conceptualisation of research as an iterative process
    • Critically assess the literature and, consequently, be able to conduct a literature review
    • Identify, develop and defend research questions and/ or research hypotheses
    • Understand and critique the diverse nature of ‘data’ and ‘literature’ and how to critically engage with it
    • Recognise the importance of ethically sensitive research and evaluate research accordingly
