Overview
Exploration of theoretical and empirical work that looks for a solution to the problem of sexual violence. Engagement with and critical evaluation of a variety of prevention approaches.
Sexual violence is an ongoing problem in our society. This paper examines theoretical approaches to the prevention of sexual violence. Diverse and transdisciplinary contributions will be considered, including those from psychology, sociology, public health, and women's and gender studies. Of central concern will be unpacking gendered assumptions about women and men, looking at how they contribute to the "cultural scaffolding of rape." Students will be encouraged to think about how prevention efforts can continue to move forward to prevent sexual violence.

This paper will be available to Criminology majors and minors, and others interested in the topic who meet the prerequisites. Sociology and Gender Studies students are encouraged to take the GEND 311 variant of this paper.
