By the end of this course students will have:
- Developed an understanding of the cross-cultural theories that inform the contemporary dance genre in Aotearoa New Zealand.
- Developed the knowledge and ability to critically analyse and interpret choreographic work.
- Acquired aesthetic, stylistic and technical skills employed by particular contemporary dance companies.
- Gained an understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of contemporary dance and its application to creative work and choreographic composition.
Academic skills
The course will enable students to:
- Critically analyse and evaluate readings relevant to the contemporary dance field.
- Effectively communicate ideas orally.
- Critically analyse choreographic compositions.
- Construct a research-based exegesis entailing critical and reflective analysis of the creative work.
