EDGD 320 Primary Curriculum 1 equips future teachers with the knowledge and confidence to bring the New Zealand Curriculum to life in today's primary classrooms. Through hands‑on, evidence‑based learning, you'll explore all major curriculum areas and learn to design engaging, inclusive programmes that meet the diverse needs of Year 1-8 learners. With a strong emphasis on culturally responsive practice, including authentic use of te reo Māori me ngā tikanga Māori. This paper sets you up to thrive as a thoughtful, effective and future‑focused educator.

- The nature and purpose of the New Zealand Curriculum, including principles, vision, key competencies, values and attitudes, as well as the learning areas.
- The nature and purpose of each curriculum area (English (including structured literacy), Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences, the Arts, Technology, Health/Physical Education, Learning Languages-all covered across EDGP 320 and EDGP 321).
- Progressions of learning in each curriculum area.
- Processes of planning, designing, assessing and evaluating pedagogically appropriate approaches to deliver the New Zealand Curriculum.
- Teaching Arrangements
This is an online, asynchronous paper.
Modules are designed with the flexibility for students to complete the learning tasks at times that best suit them. Students are encouraged to plan their work carefully so they can stay up to date with the paper content.
