This paper develops curriculum and pedagogical knowledge within a specialist secondary learning area. Students engage with subject-specific approaches to teaching, learning and assessment, as well as design learning experiences aligned with the New Zealand Curriculum.

By the end of EDGD 331, student teachers will be able to:
- Critically plan, design, assess and evaluate pedagogically appropriate classroom programmes to deliver the New Zealand Curriculum for years 7-13 students;
- Critically engage with and critique current research related to curriculum learning areas;
- Design, use and critique a range of assessment tools and strategies used in national assessment for years 7-13;
- Demonstrate a high level of pedagogical content knowledge of areas of curriculum specialisation for years 7-13; and,
- Demonstrate an ability to appropriately integrate te reo Māori me ngā tikanga Māori in their relevant curriculum areas.
