    Paper Structure

    This paper covers nutritional needs for training and competition, the role of nutrition in body composition and sports foods.

    Teaching Arrangements

    Two hours interactive learning sessions per week for 13 weeks.

    Laboratory classes for 4 weeks.


    Textbooks are not required for this paper.

    Key research papers will be used to complement lecture material. These will be available through Blackboard.

    Learning Outcomes

    By the end of HUNT 245, students should be able to:

    • Discuss the barriers to sound nutrition for exercise performance
    • Outline the nutritional requirements of physically active individuals and athletes, in a variety of sports
    • Discuss the role of nutrition and exercise in the management of body weight and body composition
    • Discuss the role and use of sports foods and dietary supplements in sport
    • Have insight into and appreciate the scope of practice of a sports nutritionist working within the sports nutrition area
