    An exploration of key issues facing Christian churches in the Pacific region and the distinct approaches of Christians in the Pacific to living out the Christian life.

    This paper explores issues of life and faith among Pacific peoples, investigates the importance of the church in Pacific cultures and considers the challenges they face in the New Zealand context.

    Eligibility

    Any student can study Theology, whether they are of the Christian faith, another faith or of no religious faith at all. Theology is an examination of the scriptures, history, content and relevance of the Christian faith, but it neither presupposes nor requires a Christian commitment from students. All it requires is an enquiring mind and an interest in those skills that can be gained through the study of any subject in the Humanities.

    Teaching Arrangements

    This paper is taught via videoconferencing. Students living in Dunedin have the option of joining the lecturer in the lecture room.

    1. Demonstrate understanding of the distinct insight and interpretation of Christian faith generated by Moana Pacific knowledge and ways of understanding.
    2. Describe the key role played by the Christian church in the life of Moana Pacific communities.
    3. Evaluate selected challenges and issues facing Christian churches in the Moana Pacific region.
    4. Critically engage with the distinct methods, theories and contrasting viewpoints of a range of Moana Pacific theologies.
