Information

Established in 1985 by the University of Otago in partnership with the Association of Home Science Alumnae of New Zealand, this award commemorates the outstanding contribution to the University of Dr Elizabeth Gregory OBE MHSc (NZ) PhD (London) Hon LLD (Otago) FNZIC, a teacher in the Faculty of Home Science from 1925 to 1961, and Dean of Faculty from 1941 to 1961. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage postgraduate study and research in subjects previously taught within the Faculty of Home Science and School of Consumer and Applied Sciences.

Applicants for this scholarship must:

  • be a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand Residence Class Visa Holder
  • have completed a Bachelor’s, Honours, Postgraduate Diploma or Master’s qualification from the University of Otago in one of the following academic disciplines:
    • Food Science (including Consumer Food Science)
    • Human Nutrition
    • Nutrition and Metabolism in Human Health
    • Sport and Exercise Nutrition
    • Social and Community Work
    • Clothing and Textile Sciences, or (since 2020) in any related study or research
    • Design (for Technology), or (since 2017) in any related study or research
  • be progressing to enrolment in a higher, postgraduate qualification at the University of Otago in any of the above disciplines or study areas

The following factors shall be considered when assessing applications:

  • the applicant’s academic record, ability and potential
  • (where applicable) the quality of any previous academic research
  • the advice and recommendation of the applicant’s (proposed) primary supervisor
  • whether the applicant has been granted any other scholarships or awards for the year of tenure.
