Established by the University of Otago in 2026, with funding derived from a generous gift in 1992 to the English Department (as it then was) by Mrs O S Cameron. These funds were donated in memory of her late husband, Professor Gregor Cameron. Professor Cameron gave many years of dedicated service to the English Department during his academic career, and was heavily involved in Shakespearean scholarship. The aim behind this award is to encourage and support excellence in the postgraduate study of English literature, particularly Renaissance and Medieval literature.
Applicants must be:
- a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand Residence Class Visa Holder
- enrolled (or planning to enrol) in an Honours degree or Master of Arts (Coursework) degree in English at the University of Otago.
The following factors shall be considered in selecting the scholarship recipient:
- The principal factor for consideration by the Selection Panel will be the demonstrated academic merit or exceptional academic promise of each applicant.
- Study or research in Renaissance or Medieval literature will also be viewed favourably, in recognition of Professor Gregor Cameron’s passion for Shakespearean life and literature.
