Information
Established in 2026 by the University of Otago, with generous support from the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research (NZIER).
NZIER is an independent, not-for-profit economic consultancy founded in 1958. Through its Public Good programme, NZIER promotes informed public debate on economic issues and supports initiatives that strengthen the economics profession, including encouraging greater diversity and participation. This scholarship is intended to encourage and support women studying economics at undergraduate level, and strengthen pathways into economics-related careers. It provides two years of financial assistance for full-time study (or part-time equivalent).
Applicants must be:
- a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand residence class visa holder,
- female, or gender diverse identifying as female, and
- enrolled (or planning to enrol) in 200-level study towards an undergraduate degree with a major in Economics.
The following factors shall be considered in selecting the scholarship:
- Academic merit or promise
- Commitment to, or interest in, a career in economics
- Community, volunteer, cultural, sporting, or other extracurricular involvement
- Financial or other personal hardship presenting a barrier to study
