EDOR arguably has the highest concentration of dietitians doing research in Aotearoa New Zealand. So it is no surprise that international food writer Tamara Hinson contacted EDOR looking for advice on nutrition tips when travelling with children.
The resulting article, called Happy Travels, has appeared in numerous media outlets and contains advice on all aspects of travelling with children from a range of international experts. EDOR dietitian Dr Rosie Jackson contributed nutrition ideas for the article.
As well as being a registered dietitian, Dr Jackson's PhD research investigated child nutrition and sleep. She has travelled internationally with her own children so is well placed to offer advice on how to find the best food for kids when the family is away from home.
Dr Jackson's top tip for feeding children while travelling is to reconsider ordering from the child's menu: "Often, kids' menus at restaurants are high in saturated fat and salt. Some restaurants will make half-size portions of adult meals, or you can share some of your meal."
