Associate Professor Justine Camp (Kai Tahu, Kāti Māmoe, Waitaha) is the inaugural Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor Māori (APVCM) for the Division of Health Sciences, and a Co-Director of the Edgar Diabetes and Obesity Research (EDOR) centre.
At EDOR, her work involves ensuring the teams operations consider and align with Māori perspectives, with a particular focus on safeguarding data sovereignty and supporting Māori research. This includes working with Māori communities and iwi partners to support their research aspirations.
In addition to her big data research, she created a whānau health compass which provides whānau with the data they need to track their own health and wellbeing (funded by Brain Research New Zealand).
Passionate about improving whānau wellbeing, Justine has also worked as Associate Dean (Māori) of the Otago Medical School, researched the impacts of Type II diabetes mellitus on whānau, lectured for many years, and served on several governance committees.
Justine’s roles, both past and present, intend to celebrate and equip Māori tauira, kaimahi and academics so that their mana and wairua flourishes.
