    Overview

    An introduction to Māori public health, exploring the nature and extent of the Māori population, determinants of Māori health outcomes, Māori health inequities and initiatives to address these.

    Hauora Māori: Challenges and Opportunities provides a comprehensive introduction to Hauora a Iwi (Māori public health). We will explore key frameworks and models for understanding Hauora a Iwi, Māori health outcomes, and determinants influencing these outcomes. We will delve into contemporary Hauora Māori issues, and examine various opportunities and approaches to effectively meet these challenges. Through this paper, students will gain a deeper insight into critical aspects of Māori public health and strategies to improve health outcomes within Māori communities.

    At the completion of this paper, students will be able to:

    1. Demonstrate an understanding of key historical processes, personalities, and events relating to Hauora Māori and Hauora a Iwi/Māori public health.
    2. Critically examine the impact of historical factors on contemporary Hauora Māori and Hauora a Iwi/Māori public health outcomes.
    3. Demonstrate an understanding of contemporary Hauora Māori and Hauora a Iwi/Māori public health.
    4. Critically analyse contemporary Hauora Māori topics to identify key issues and challenges.
    5. Evaluate and propose public health approaches aimed at addressing inequities and promoting Māori flourishing.
