Up until 2025, Trainee Interns (sixth-year medical students) would undertake a research project as part of their medical education in the Department of Public Health (Dunedin) to extend their knowledge of research methods, and to develop strategies to avoid or ameliorate problems in the delivery of health care.
Research questions would come from clinicians, community organisations, or University staff and allow students to resolve real-world problems.
Trainee Interns worked in groups for six weeks to develop the study design, collect data, and to analyse and report on their findings
