The Emeritus Professor Anne Smith Collection was gifted to the University of Otago College of Education and the Children’s Issues Centre by Dr. John Smith, Principal Lecturer in the fields of literacy, reading, and education at the Dunedin College of Education (1975-2007).
It includes a selection of books on early childhood education and childhood studies from the professional library of Emeritus Professor Anne Smith (1940-2016).
The collection, including Anne’s own publications, contains material not always available in New Zealand, as well as significant works in her field of study. The library is available for use on site to scholars, on application to either the Children’s Issues Centre or the College of Education.

Anne Smith’s personal academic papers have been deposited in the Hocken Collections University of Otago Library.
About Emeritus Professor Anne Smith
Anne established a foremost national and international reputation for her research and advocacy concerning early childhood education and childhood studies.
Anne was appointed to the Department of Education at the University of Otago in 1975. In 1995, she became the foundation Director of the Children’s Issues Centre. Anne retired in 2007 and as an Emeritus Professor established a close relationship with the University of Otago College of Education.
