Dr Cree completed her PhD and undertook postdoctoral training in the USA. She came to Aotearoa in 2011 and joined the University of Otago as a Postdoctoral Fellow in 2012, where she developed new expertise in the field of human genetics and genomics. From 2014, Dr Cree led the introduction of long-read nanopore sequencing to NZ. She is investigating inherited susceptibility to cardiovascular disease in Pacific Peoples in Christchurch. Her research focuses on identifying genetic risk factors for cardiovascular disease in Pacific Peoples and discovering how proteins that circulate in blood that are used to predict risk and progression of heart disease may differ between Pacific and European people using state-of-the-art technology such as long-read nanopore sequencing.
