Ibrahim graduated from the University of Otago and completed general practice training in the Canterbury region (FRNZCGP).

During his undergraduate medical training at the University of Otago, Ibrahim became involved in diabetes and diabetic foot disease research under the supervision of Associate Professor Kirsten Coppell.

He has since been involved in medical education research and related activities with a particular focus on research interest and involvement in health profession undergraduate and postgraduate training.

Other research interests include primary-secondary care interface, clinical care pathways, antibiotic use in general practice, and quality improvement projects.

Ibrahim is the convenor of the Quality and Safety Vertical Module and teaches at the Primary Care Module.
