Professional Practice FellowCarlene Farnhill

Carlene Farnhill is a Registered Midwife (RM) with over 14 years of clinical experience in New Zealand and Australia. She has worked across a wide range of maternity care settings, including tertiary hospitals, primary birthing units, and as a Lead Maternity Carer.

Teaching

Carlene’s current role is a Professional Practice Fellow Midwife Tutor, at the University of Otago, Christchurch, where she contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Obstetrics. Her teaching focus is on giving a midwifery perspective to both the 5th-year medical students and healthcare professionals undertaking the Diploma of Obstetrics.

Carlene is a senior midwife on birthing suite, Christchurch Women’s Hospital, where she provides teaching support and mentoring to both medical and midwifery students.

Research Interests

Carlene has also worked as a Clinical Research Midwife on several studies, including the C*STEROID and RSV trials. Carlene brings a strong focus on supporting research, evidence-based care, and quality improvement.

Professional bodies

Carlene is an active member of the New Zealand College of Midwives and serves on the Governance Group for the Canterbury and West Coast Region.
