Tautiaki | College Warden
Christina has extensive experience in residential life and she holds a deep passion for the Caroline Freeman College community. Her role encompasses the management of all daily college operations, with a primary focus on nurturing a vibrant and supportive community culture. Christina Is particularly interested in the well-being of our residents, and she plays a strong role in supporting everyone who lives and works here. Christina is available to support you in any aspect of your life at Caroline Freeman and Otago, so don’t hesitate to let her know if you need anything.
You will find Christina around the college during the day and you’ll often see her in the evening and at weekends.
Tautiaki Piki | Vukevuke ni liuliu | College Deputy Warden
We are incredibly blessed to have Eric as our Tautiaki Piki. Eric brings the warmth, generosity, and spirit of his Fijian heritage into everything he does. Eric supports Christina in the running of the community, and also looks after our academic programme and events programme. There’s a kind of quiet magic in the way Eric creates connection, fosters community, and approaches his role with heart and authenticity. Eric is around the college in the afternoons, evenings and weekends.
Tautiaki Kaiāwhina | College Assistant Warden
Karun Rawat is our Tauitaki Kaiāwhina. From Nepal, Karun brings a global perspective, along with a warmth that quietly transforms the spaces around him. His kindness, gentle sense of humour and natural ability to connect with others help create environments where everyone feels at ease. There’s a sense of energy and care in the way he builds community, turning everyday moments into something a little more meaningful. You’ll find Karun around the college on afternoons, evenings and weekends.
College Administrator
Our Administrator, Liesl, hailing from South Africa, takes care of the behind-the-scenes magic that keeps our office and administrative systems running smoothly. You'll her find her in the office during regular weekday office hours. She’s not only incredibly efficient but also warmly kind and genuinely interested in helping everyone feel supported. Feel free to have a chat with Liesl or ask her any college related questions you have, you’ll always find her ready to listen and happy to point you in the right direction to find the answers or support you need.
Kaiāwhina Whare | Sub-Wardens
Our Kaiāwhina Whare are the heart of the Caroline Freeman community. They are experienced mentors and leaders who understand what it’s like to be a first year student. Kind, supportive, and approachable, they guide residents with empathy and insight, helping everyone navigate college life with confidence.
Having been in your shoes, our Kaīāwhina Whare offer more than a listening ear, they provide genuine care, encouragement, and a steady presence, making sure every resident feels seen, heard, and valued.
Kaiwhakahaere Ratonga Kai | Food Services Manager
Brent Cowie, our Food Services Manager leads the catering team to provide well balanced meals with good options for those with specific dietary needs.
Kaituitui Rauhanga | Property Services Facilities Co-ordinator
The Kaituitui Rauhanga (Property Services Facilities Co-ordinator) Robert Strang, has responsibility for overseeing maintenance of our buildings and fixed building systems.
