Research

Dr Ruqayya Sulaiman-Hill is a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Psychological Medicine, University of Otago Christchurch.

She has a PhD in International Health from Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia and degrees in Political Science and Religious Studies from New Zealand, as well as a professional background in Medical Laboratory Science.

Her current research focus is on the psychological impact of traumatic events, especially for refugee and migrant communities.

She is a co-Principal investigator on the HRC and CMRF funded March 15 Project, assessing the impacts of the March 15 terrorist attacks on the Christchurch Muslim community. She is also helping to coordinate an international study to obtain data and to validate translations of a newly-developed Covid Psychosocial Impacts Scale in several Muslim majority countries.
