Research

James graduated from the University of Otago in 1996 and completed specialist training in psychiatry in Melbourne in 2006. Since returning to Christchurch in 2008 he has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Christchurch and on the West Coast.

James is the co-convenor of fourth year medical student teaching in addiction medicine.

His research interests include the epidemiology of alcohol use, particularly in relation to mental health comorbidity, and the treatment of alcohol related mental illness.
